The Municipality of Messines is located in the Outaouais administrative region, in the heart of the Vallée-de-la-Gatineau, approximately 115 kilometres north of Canada’s capital and about 20 kilometres south of the Town of Maniwaki. Covering an area of more than 108 square kilometres, Messines is home to more than 1,680 residents, making it the fourth-largest municipality in the Vallée-de-la-Gatineau RCM. Its enchanting natural surroundings and the cleanliness of the community have earned Messines the title “Gem of the Gatineau”.

A popular destination for thousands of cottagers, Messines offers privileged access to magnificent Blue Sea Lake, as well as numerous other lakes and waterways that cover one-third of its territory. Boat launches are available on the municipality’s three main lakes: Petit lac des Cèdres, Grand lac des Cèdres and Blue Sea Lake. The beautiful Lac des Cèdres area is also well worth discovering, with scenic trails for visitors to explore in both summer and winter.

Messines is also home to SOPFEU’s regional operations centre for southwestern Quebec. From its facilities at the Maniwaki Regional Airport, SOPFEU monitors and fights forest fires across a vast territory extending from north of Montreal to the Témiscamingue region.
