Located less than an hour’s drive north of Canada’s National Capital Region, Lac-Sainte-Marie is renowned for its ski resort, professional golf course, and breathtaking scenery.
A true gem of the Gatineau Valley, the municipality is distinguished by its majestic mountains and numerous crystal-clear lakes. Over the years, it has become a favourite destination for vacationers and outdoor enthusiasts.
Trading posts, forestry, and agriculture formed the foundation of the municipality’s development in the late 19th century.
In 1928, following the construction of the Paugan hydroelectric dam in the Municipality of Low, the village was flooded and subsequently relocated. The flooding significantly enlarged Lac Sainte-Marie, which soon became a sought-after destination for vacation property owners who built cottages along its shores.
The municipality’s tourism growth is also closely linked to the development of Mont Sainte-Marie Ltd. The economic benefits generated by this enterprise contributed to the revitalization of the community and supported numerous projects for its future growth.
During the winter months, the mountain attracts alpine skiing enthusiasts, while its vibrant autumn colours inspire photographers and artists alike. Complementing these attractions is an exceptional 18-hole professional golf course.
From spring through summer, golfers, hikers, and enthusiasts of water sports and equestrian activities enjoy an outstanding natural environment and spectacular panoramic views.
