Welcome to Egan-Sud
The Municipality of Egan-Sud, established in 1881, takes its name from the township in which it is located. The territories of the Municipality of Bois-Franc and the former Municipality of Montcerf, now Montcerf-Lytton, were separated from the township in 1920.
The municipality was named in honour of John Egan, an Irish immigrant who owned extensive timber concessions in the Outaouais region. In 1864, the new township was named in his memory, several years after his death in 1857. The township was originally settled primarily by Irish settlers.
Located directly north of Maniwaki, Egan-Sud has a commercial, residential and agricultural character. Commercial activity is concentrated mainly along Route 105, while the municipality continues to encourage commercial and residential development throughout its territory.
The construction of new businesses, the expansion of existing ones and residential development along the shores of Evans Lake are examples of this ongoing growth.
Recreational activities also play an important role in the community. In winter, residents of Egan-Sud and neighbouring municipalities can enjoy a large skating rink on Evans Lake. Its approximately 1.2-kilometre circular skating trail offers a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and embrace the pleasures of winter.
Egan-Sud warmly invites you to discover its territory and attractions, including the Gatineau, Désert and de l’Aigle rivers, as well as its Town-type covered bridge, which spans the de l’Aigle River.
