Déléage is the name of the municipality formerly known as the Township of Kensington. In its early days, the township had a population of only 114 and had not yet been granted municipal status.

It was not until January 1, 1881, that the Township of Kensington was officially incorporated as a municipality.

Over the decades, the population grew significantly. In 1963, just over 80 years after its incorporation, the municipality had 1,150 residents. At the time of its centennial in 1981, the population was estimated at 1,482. It then reached 1,964 residents in the 2006 Canadian census and 2,023 residents in 2008.

In 1930, another major change marked the municipality’s history: the Township of Kensington was renamed Déléage in honour of Reverend Father Jean R. Déléage, a missionary with the Oblates of Mary Immaculate.

Recognized as the founder of the parish, Father Jean R. Déléage served as its administrator and organizer for 26 years, from 1853 to 1879. The name change officially took effect on February 15, 1930, with the support of the local population.
