Description
Located less than three hours from Montreal, La Vérendrye Wildlife Reserve spans the Outaouais and Abitibi-Témiscamingue tourism regions. Covering an area of 12,589 km², it is one of the largest natural territories in Québec. Known for its vast forests, approximately 4,000 lakes, and the impressive Cabonga and Dozois reservoirs, it is a premier destination for nature lovers, anglers, canoe-camping enthusiasts, and outdoor adventurers.
The reserve offers more than 800 km of navigable routes set up for canoe-camping, as well as several interpretation sites, including Chutes-du-Lac-Roland, Le Domaine, and the Baie-des-Sables Trail on Grand Lac Victoria. Visitors can also explore the permanent wildlife exhibit located at the South Entrance Centre.
Named in honor of the renowned explorer Pierre Gaultier de Varennes et de La Vérendrye, this iconic Outaouais destination invites visitors to discover the region’s wild beauty and the Algonquin heritage that has shaped the territory for generations.
The reserve offers five boat-washing stations, as well as a variety of packages and accommodation options, including campgrounds, cottages, and ready-to-camp units.
