Located in the Haute-Gatineau region, along the Gatineau River and Route 105, Bouchette is a picturesque small community with 787 permanent residents and 1,075 seasonal property owners.

The Township of Bouchette was officially proclaimed on March 16, 1858. It was named in honour of Joseph Bouchette (1774–1841), Surveyor General of Lower Canada and a prominent authority on topographical surveying in the early 19th century.

During the settlement period, many farms were established along the Gatineau River, gradually forming the beginnings of a village. Such was the case with the Township of Bouchette, which developed on land belonging to François Nadon.

Agriculture played an important role in the community’s early development. The first farming families initially settled along both sides of the river. They were soon joined by merchants, blacksmiths, carriage drivers, innkeepers, carpenters, shoemakers, barbers and other tradespeople, who gathered around the first church, built in 1876. In 1980, the Municipality of Bouchette merged with the neighbouring Municipality of Cameron. In 2008, Bouchette celebrated its 150th anniversary.
